KID

Kaiden is growing so much and is really starting to be more like a big kid instead of my little boy. He said his first prayer by himself last Monday before FHE. I was very excited he wanted to try b/c lately he hasn't really wanted to say prayer at all, he just wants me or Joe too. His first prayer went like this, "Dear Heavenly Farder, thank you for our blessings. Thank you for mommy. Thank you for daddy. In the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!" We were really proud b/c we didn't help him out at all. He has tried to say the prayer, in his words, 'all by myself' before but has gotten stuck and we've ended up helping him. Since we bragged so much on him he wanted to say the closing/family prayer too. This time he was thankful for Kalli and the Holy Ghost (with a little help from mom and dad- which is what our lesson was on). While getting him ready for bed that night he jumped up on his bed while I was helping him put his pants on and head-butted me in the chin. It hurt so bad! So for his bedtime prayer he said he was sorry for hitting mommy in the chin. Since then he has added a few comical things in his prayers. He's been thankful for daddy's computer, he's asked for help for daddy to focus and has thanked Heavenly Father for preparing the food. I'm just so proud of this little guy but he too has been so stubborn lately I'm not sure what to do with him. If he's in a mood I have the hardest time trying to get him to do anything! Usually when he'd get in trouble and would go to time out it wasn't as big of an ordeal but now its like pulling teeth. I was spanking here and there but I've really have tried hard not too. Does anyone have any advice on what to do for the Terrible Three's b/c we're definitely there! I also need any help on how to get this kid to poop in the potty. He hardly ever has accidents with #1 but will NOT go #2 in the potty. He will hold it in all day until he takes his rest or goes to sleep that night. If by chance he is awake he will go and hide and before I realize what he's probably doing it's too late. He'll even go peepee before so he's completely dry when he has his accident! Joe and I are at a loss on what to do. He has done it before and gotten rewards but now he wont' have anything to do with it and could care less about any treats or surprises. We've had him in just in undies during nap so its really yucky but it doesn't seem to bother him at all. Joe has even sat him on the potty for over an hour before bed time b/c he said he needed to poop and nothing but once he got in bed behind closed doors...you guessed it! What's so funny (See I'm trying to see humor in all of this) is every time he has an accident he apologizes. And says at nighttime I'm going to poop in the potty but that NEVER happens! So any advice would be greatly appreciated!
One last thing to add is Kaiden's new reasoning for not liking or wanting to do something. He'll tell you he doesn't like something that he usually loves or he doesn't want to do something b/c 'it's daytime' or because 'it's not daytime anymore'. For example he's eating dinner and in the middle of eating his chicken he says, "Daddy, I don't like my chicken anymore." Joe of course asks why not and in reply "because it's not daytime anymore." How weird is that. It's his excuse for everything! He won't even play with some of his favorite toys at certain times b/c of this. He's so funny and I always love hearing his reason and explanation for things...okay so maybe not always...
I don't like such and such b/c its day time or its not daytime

Those posts about your kids were so great. Kaiden cracks me up! What a silly boy :). Good luck with the potty training. I'm so not looking forward to starting that! Those pictures of Kalli on the chairs are so cute. You can tell she loves being in it!

Don't know what to tell you about the potty training, we didn't have a problem. Maybe talk to his doctor about it? We are having issues with Hayden too, they are just in the age where they are trying to be independent and are still learning to share/listen/be nice/etc and there are days I end up in tears because I spent the whole day dealing with one issue of Hayden's after another. We just keep praying and we have a sticker chart for good behavior and we talk about ways to be nice. Good luck with it all! He sounds so much like Hayden!

The potty training thing is so hard. Bennett was 3 when he finally go the hang of it, but it seemed to just click one day. Now we have problems when he's sleeping with staying dry. I think the thing Bennett loved to do the most with pooping was telling the poop it was going to the party before flushing it down the toilet. It has to go to the party with the other poop friends! So if he has an accident then you put that poop (or as much of it as you can!) in the toilet and remind Kaiden that the poop needs to be with his friends at the party. Bennett was, and is, really big into parties so this seemed to intrigue him. Good luck though =). I don't envy you at all. And I LOVE all the pictures! PS- we found Bennett's little chair at a store called KB toys in one of our malls. They had all sorts of different characters. Have you checked a toy store in one of your malls? That might be you best bet.

I've always been so impressed with how smart Kaiden is. In nursery, he used to be so good at singing the songs, and getting the words right. I can't believe he is doing so good with prayers!

I think terrible 3's are harder... And sorry no help on the potty stuff. We lucked out with Scott that he had no problems there but I forsee problems with Brock- he's just that kind of kid that'll not care what anyone says and pee his pants... Good luck...

And that's funny that he won't do stuff not in the daytime. Hmmm-- kids?!

I love the advice Traci gave you...never thought of poop friends! I have no good advice when it comes to potty training. Ry was really easy, but it did help to have a treat bag for her and if she went potty then she got to pick something from it. As far as the terrible 3's: There is a book called Parenting the Ephraim's Child and it teaches parents how to work with our kids strong personalities because they are Heavenly Father's strongest spirits. I need to learn that though these strong traits make me want to pull my hair out, they are valuable in Heavenly Father's plan. Good luck with it all, it definitely tries the strongest person's patience :)

I have no advice for you b/c I haven't gotten to that point with Tyler yet. Frankly, I'm scared!! I don't handle poop very well and it frightens me to think of the things Tyler will think of. So, whatever advice you get I am just logging it into my brain so I can bust out their tactics with Tyler. Good luck !!

i got the goose bumps reading about kaiden's prayers. its so sweet to hear a child pray.
The whole potty training thing is new to me. sadie is learning pee-pee in the potty, but she's terrified to poop there. we know she has to go when she starts crying and runs and hides. wonder why poop is harder for them to get than pee? let me know if you figure it out!
I'm sorry I didn't tell you we were moving! I thought I told you at the egg hunt. I would have given you a big hug too :)

Mmm...my only advice for the potty training? Don't push it! Noah took a really early interest in toilet training when he was 18 months old and I thought yes! This is it! Nope. He was almost 4 by the time he started going. I was stressing because he would be the only child at school still in nappies! But he sussed it out in his own time and it literally happened over night! So I wouldn't worry too much!!
His little prayers sound so cute! It's nice that he is getting into the spirit of it, even if he is thankful for some funny things! But hey, the computer is very important :-)
Loved reading this post, thank you!!

Wow! I can't wait to see the little guy! He sounds like such a big boy with his prayers! We will have to get him to say family prayer when you are here.

I love the day time or not day time explination! So creative!
